John Morrison is the son of Hugh Morrison who was an immigrant from County Londonderry, Ireland but born Scotland. John's mother is Martha McCrillis. The McCrillis and Morrison families sailed from Portrush together with other family and friends. Martha is listed on the ship as McCrillis, not Morrison. Hugh and Martha were probably married soon after their arrival in Boston in 1726.

John fought in the French and Indian War. He was probably born in Londonderry, NH where his parents lived for a few years after immigrating to the American Colonies. He lived first in Nottingham, NH, then in Deerfield. He was in Colrain, MA during the French and Indian War. He married Ann Thompson. They lived and had their children in Colrain.

John was a signer of a letter from the town of Colrain that was sent to Boston in support of the revolution.

In the late 1787, after Shays Rebellion, the family moved to the areas of Hartford and Kingsbury, Washington County, NY. John held several town positions in Kingsbury.

He left a will giving his farm and utensils to his son, Samuel. He gave a horse and cow valued at $60 to his son, Solomon.

Inscription

John Morrison -- Ann wife of
died Augt ? 1810 - John Morrison
in the 82 year -- died Nov. 10 1808
of his age -- Æ 7? Years
The day in Aug for John was not readable on our visit. It has been previously read as 1 Aug 1810 and as 7 Aug 1810. John's age has been has been read as 82 and 89. We read 82 and I believe that is probably correct.
We read Ann's age as 70, but it has previously been read as 72 and 79. After closely studying our photo I can't determine which might be correct.
