Husband of Evaline Pitzer Stewart.

On 3 Sep 1862, he enlisted as a private in Company D, 3rd Regiment, West Virginia Volunteer Calvary. He served until 20 July 1864, when he was taken prisoner at Winchester, Virginia. On 13 Nov 1864 he was transferred to a hospital at Danville, Virginia, and on 7 Mar 1864, he was transferred to Hospital No. 21, Richmond, Virginia. On 10 Mar 1865, he was paroled at Coxes Wharf, Virginia. On 6 Jun 1865, he was mustered out with his unit, at Alexandria, Virginia. In Dec 1896 and Jun 1897 he was living in Fairmont, Marion County, West Virginia. In 1915, he traveled to San Francisco, California, at the age of 89, to attend the Panama-Pacific Exposition. While in California, he became ill. He was taken to Soldiers Home, California, in the western part of Los Angeles, where he died.
