Obituary

Alfred Donovan Johnson who was born in Mercer county, Ohio, September 10, 1840, and departed this life May 12, 1923 at the age of 82 years, 8 months and 2 days.

Mr. Johhnson was stricken with paralysis at his home on North Thirteenth street from which he never rallied.

September 10th, 1861 he enlisted with the 46th Ohio volunteers, and received his honorable discharge in 1864 at Chicago, Illinois.

In the year of 1865 he was united in marriage to Miss Sarah Frances Mortimore of Mendon, Ohio. To this union was born seven sons, which are left to mourn his departure, his wife having preceded him in death, December 26, 1912. S.B. Johnson of West Maple street, W.R. Johnson of North Twelfth of this city; Arthur of Walla Walla, Washington; Walter and John of Kingman, Ariz., and Elmer of Lincoln, Arkansas, also seven grandchildren, two sisters and one brother, Mrs. Elias Portsman of Alma, Ohio, Mrs. John Kraugh of Mendon, Ohio, and Harrison Johnson of Spencerville, Ohio, and one niece, Mrs. G.C. Redick of this city.

Mr. Johnson came to Kansas with his family in 1879 and has made Independence his home for 29 years. He has been a member of the U.B. church for years.
