Funeral services for James Whitney, 70, of Winnsboro will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday December 22, 2005 in Christian Fellowship Church in Winnsboro with Rev. George Ferrington, Rev. Jesse Laney, and Brian Mabry officiating. Interment will be Coax Cemetery under the direction of Gill First National Funeral Home of Winnsboro. Visitation will be Wednesday from 6-9 PM at Christian Fellowship Church.

He was born to the union of Osborn Edward and Audrey Denton Whitney on September 23, 1935 in Winnsboro and went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, December 20, 2005 at his home near Winnsboro.

Mr. Whitney, a devout Christian, attended Christian Fellowship Church. He retired from the State Department of Elections, handling the voting booths for Franklin Parish for many years. He was widely known throughout north Louisiana as the owner of Whitney's Nursery and Landscaping for the past 32 years. He married Ola Mae Cockerham on July 28, 1954.

He and his wife graciously opened their home and their hearts to many foster children throughout the years. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors in include his wife of 51 years Ola Mae Whitney of Winnsboro; three children Jackie Kimball and husband C.C. of Memphis, Tenn., Cindy Humphries and husband Randy, and Mark Whitney and wife Amy all of Winnsboro; a brother Bobby Whitney and wife Shirley of Winnsboro; grandchildren Skipper, Christy, Lucas Julie Courtney, Jamie and Rich: great grandchildren Coby, Kylie, Caleb, Cooper, Luke, Ethan, Sean Tyler, Hayden, and Chandler, foster children Susan, Cynthia, Ron, Sue Lynn, Jessie, Jessica, Sheena, Leigh Ann, Ramona and Paul: numerous other relatives and a host of friends.
