Janie Ruth Dansby Thompson, 93, of Arcadia, Fl. passed away September 29, 2008 in Palmetto, Fl. Janie was born to John and Rosa Dansby, July 10, 1915 in Tampa, Fl., and had lived in Arcadia since 1945, moving here from Clewiston, FL. She graduated from Hillsborough High School and at midnight, Jan. 1, 1935, she became Mrs. Bernie Thompson. She and her husband entered into a partnership and began selling automotive parts and equipment. Janie would keep the books and keep up with the jobbers throughout the U. S. A. Bernie and Janie was awarded a NAPA distributorship in the early 1940's and in 1945 moved that distributorship to a building they built at 39 W. Magnolia St. in Arcadia. When she retired in 1976, she was awarded the distinct honor from NAPA for having the longest owned distributorship by a female. Janie was the president of the Business and Professional Women's Club, Arcadia, Fl. on multiple occasions. She was always very proud of having dug the first shovel full for building the Girl Scout's House at Lake Kathleen. She attended business college in Lakeland, Fl. and received a degree in Business Accounting. She loved spending time with her family. She was a member of the Arcadia Country Club, the DeSoto County High School Band Boosters, the Trinity United Methodist Church and was active in the affairs of the church.

Survivors are two sons, Bernie Leon (Anne) Thompson II, Palmetto, Fl. and Gene L. Thompson, Port Charlotte, Fl. , two grandchildren, Bernie L. Thompson III, Myakka, Fl. and Gene L. Thompson II, Winter Park, Fl., and many cousins, neices, and nephews. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband Bernie in Dec. 1981.
