Last Rites For John Christian Held Saturday

John Van Zant Christian, 91, well known and highly esteemed former resident of this community, passed away in a Peoria hospital last Wednesday evening following a protracted illness. Born in Hope, N. Y., October 16, 189, he received his education in the east. He came to Illinois when a young man and settled in Princeville in 1884.
He was united in marriage to Miss Lizzie May Wilson October 6, 1886 and they quietly observed their 63rd wedding anniversary just before Mrs. Christian passed away October 23, 1949.
To this union three children were born: Wilbur J. of Peoria, Horace V. of Daytona Beach, Fla., and one daughter Mrs. Hattie Cosgrove of Eagle Lake Texas.
The Christians were Princeville residents all their married life until November 1, 1946 when they moved to Peoria to live with their son, Wilbur J. and family. Mr. Christian for many years was in the meat business with William Hammer in the building now occupied by Ray Harrod Barber shop.
He is survived by his three children, eight grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held from the Bouton Memorial home Saturday afternoon with Rev. James J. Gross officiating. He was laid to rest in the Princeville cemetery.
Bearers were John R. Christian, Carl Grimm, Earl Hopkins, Harold Porter, Robert Faul and W. I. Christian.
