Obituary
Martin Olaf Nelson

Martin Olaf Nelson was called to his eternal home on Monday, May 10th having attained the age of 84 years, 4 months and 25 days. He was born December 15, 1858 in Attmar Sukan, Medelpad, Sweden where he grew to manhood. When he was 20 years of age, he accepted the Lord as his Savior and the following year was baptized and united with a Baptist church in Sweden.

In 1885, he came to Karlstad directly from Sweden and the same year was united in marriage to Miss Martha Englund. In 1889, he became a charter member of the local Baptist church and was elected a deacon which office he held until his death. Besides being a deacon, he served many years as vice chairman of the church, and was a Sunday School teacher at the time of his death.

On January 15, 1891, after a lingering illness, sorrow first entered his family in the death of his wife, Martha. On July 12, 1892, he was married to Miss Christine Larson, to which union were born seven children, of whom three sons preceded him in death. On December 10, 1923, his wife Christine died. On January 5, 1931, he was married to Mrs. Olga Olson who mourns his departure. Altho death came very suddenly to our friend, he had lived well and long, and was prepared for his eternal rest.

Besides his wife, Mrs. Olga Nelson, he leaves to mourn his departure four daughters: Lydia of St. Paul, Alma, Mrs. Jonas Stromlund of Strandquist, Emma, Mrs. Eric Nelson of Minneapolis, and Lillian, Mrs. Axel Larson of St. Paul, four grandchildren and many more distant relatives and a host of friends for he was a friend of all.

A great Christian has left us in body, but his influence will continue to be felt for many years.
