Bruce Edwin Wardell, 60, of Avoca died Tuesday, August 12, 2008 at the Don and Marilyn Anderson Hospice Care Center in Madison after a brief, valiant battle with cancer due to the effects of ‘Agent Orange' in Vietnam. He died with his mother and family members by his side. Bruce was born May 26, 1948 in Richland Center the son of Edwin and Evelyn (McKinney) Wardell.

He graduated from Muscoda High School in 1966 and later attended classes at UW-Richland and MATC. Bruce worked as a barber, in the field of telecommunications, and later as a skilled carpenter. He was an avid sports fan enjoying fishing, hunting, camping, with a great love of all outdoor activities. Bruce loved spending time on prized 1957 Harley Sportster. For those who really knew Bruce it was obvious, mad passion and knowledge of fire arms and weaponry, often teaching classes on the importance of ‘gun safety.

He proudly served his country in Vietnam, and later serving as a US Army Military Police stationed in Okinawa. Bruce was a member of the Frank O'Brien American Legion Post 335, of Avoca, active in Vietnam Vets Association and Affairs. He was a longtime member of both Avoca Rescue and Fire Squads, and an officer for the Avoca Rod and Gun Club.

Bruce is survived by his mother Evelyn Wardell of Avoca, a sister, Kathleen (Mark) Delkamp of Avoca, his brothers, Dale Wardell of Middleton, Randall Wardell of Minneapolis, Dennis (Bonnie) Wardell of Deerfield, Daniel Wardell of Madison, his nieces, Megan (John) Dorgan, Erin Dorgan, Elizabeth Wardell, Savannah Wardell, Shauna Boetcher, his nephews, Lonnie (Yanci) Reyzak, Jon Boetcher, a great nephew, Zakk Reyzek, his great nieces Reily and Lilly Dorgan, special care giving friends, Mike Simpson, Angela Wardell, Dave and Tina Mayer, and their children, Austin and Adam, as well as many uncles, aunts, cousins, and friends.

Bruce was preceded in death by his father Edwin ‘Sod' Wardell, brother Jim, grandparents Mabel and Otis Wardell, Anna and Henry McKinney, two beloved military service dogs, Duke and Sarge.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, August 16, 2008 at 11:30 AM at the Godager Funeral Home in Muscoda, with Pastor Bob LeCount officiating. Burial was held at the Avoca Cemetery with military graveside rites provided by Avoca America Legion Post 335.

Friends may call at the Godager Funeral Home on Saturday, August 16, 2008 from 9:00 AM until the time of service at 11:30 AM.
