Death of Mrs. Margaret Burns
Mrs. Burns, wife of R.G. Burns, residing four miles northwest of Independence, passed on yesterday morning at 5:15 o'clock at the age of 75 years, death being due to grippe. She had not been strong for some time but her illness was not serious until ten days ago. She was born in Johnson county, Indiana in 1847, Davenport being her maiden name. She was united in marriage in 1884 to R.G. Burns. Mrs. Burns came to Kansas fifty-three years ago, in September, 1869. She was a member of the First Christian church and of the Woman's Relief Corps.

Mrs. Burns is survived by her husband, three children, Edwin S. Clemmer, Mrs. Jessie C. Burns, and Clyde Burns; one sister, Mrs. Green of Elk Falls, Kansas, and three nephews.

Funeral services were held from the family home at 2 o'clock this afternoon in charge of Rev. F.L. Pettit of the First Christian church. Burial was in Mt. Hope cemetery.

Death of A Pioneer Woman

Mrs. R.G. Burns Passed Away Yesterday at Home Northwest of City

Mrs. R.G. Burns, aged 75 years, passed away yesterday morning at 5:15 a.m. at the family home northwest of Independence near White Post school house. She has been in poor health for the past two or three years.

The deceased was married twice. Her first husband with home she came to this county in 1869, was Isaac Clemmer who died a number of years ago. She is survived by her husband R.G. Burns, one daughter, Mrs. Jesse Burns, two sons, Edward Clemmer, and Clyde Burns, all living in the White Post neighborhood; two step daughters, Mrs. Rosie Garner, south of this city, and Mrs. Clara Pitts, living near Sedan and three step sons, Albert Burns, at the home place, Clarence Burns of near Centerville, Kansas and Emmet Burns living in Idaho; one brother, George Davenport, of Johnson county, Indiana, and one sister, Mrs. Ellen Green, Elk county, Kansas.

The funeral was held from the family home this afternoon, the services being conducted by Rev. F.L. Pettit of the First Christian church. Burial was in Mt. Hope cemetery.

Mrs. Burns was born near Franklin, Indiana. She was just 22 years of age when she came to this county with her husband 53 years ago. She was a life long member of the Christian church and was for years active in the religious work of the White Post district. She was among the fine pioneer women who early settled in this county and went through the hardships of the frontier life with a faith and courage that was a great help to all associated with her. She was held in the highest esteem by neighbors and friends and was known as a faithful wife, devoted mother and a pure Christian woman with high ideals.
