Ellen was baptised on May 12, 1833 in the Archdiocese of Cashel and Emly in County Tipperary. Her parents were Tobias Burke and Mary Fox. Per the 1900 US Census, she came to the United States in 1846. She married William Dwyer in St Anne's Church in Kensington in Philadelphia on August 8, 1854. They had 8 children. Ellen died at home in 1921 at 2542 Somerset Avenue in Philadelphia. She is buried with her husband, William Dwyer, in St Anne's Parish Cemetery in Philadelphia.
