"MARY M. ADER, was born on 19 December 1842 in German Valley, Morris County, New Jersey. She was the daughter of Isaac Ader and Catherine Beam. She married William Clawson on 27 June 1863. She died on 12 April 1923 at 9:30
P.M. in Long Valley (German Valley) New Jersey."

WILLIAM CLEVELAND* CLAWSON, was born on 01 August of 1840 in Washington Township, Morris County, New Jersey. He was the son of James Clausen and Mary. He married Mary M. Ader on 27 June 1863 in Fox Hill, Tewksbury Township, Hunterdon County, New Jersey by the Rev. John R. Wilcox. It appears there may have been a double wedding with William's brother Daniel Clawson because they were both mmarried on the same day by the same minister. William Clawson has been described as having the following characteristics by different sources blue (gray) eyes, brown (gray) hair, 5' 9" (5' 8 1/2") tall and his complexion has been described as light, fair and ruby. He was a farmer by occupation.

William Clawson fought in the Civil War in Company F of the 72nd New York Infantry as a Private and later in Company M, lst Regiment of the New Jersey Calvary as a Private. During the Civil War he was wounded at the Battle of Fairoaks, Virginia on 25 June 1862 and at the Battle of Farmville, Virginia on 7 April 1865 where he was shot off a white horse in battle. William Clawson received a "gunshot wound left hand at battle of Fair Oaks, Va., on or about May 31, 1862. And at the battle of Farmville, Virginia on or about April 7, 1865 received a gunshot wound to left foot." One last interesting note of William Clawson is that on his right arm he had a tattoo of a dancing girl and on his left arm the crucifixion. He passed away on 24 July 1907 and was buried in Fairmount, Tewksbury twp., Hunterdon Co., New Jersey.

William Clawson and Mary M. Ader's children were:

Martha Jane (Maithy)- born 18 Feb 1864
Catharine Ader born 18 May 1871
Lillie M. born 18 Sept 1879
William Jr. born 7 August 1881
Grover Cleveland born 16 May 1885
Isaac A born 22 Sept 1866
Delia (? spelling)
Linlow
George C. Clawson born 16 May 1885

* William Clawson's granddaughter Ervilla Ethel Howell Fisler told me his middle name was Cleveland. But I have never found information to verify this.
