Mary Ann was the daughter of Auguste Aristede Palmer and Martha Smith. On October 8, 1829, Aristede Palmer married Mrs. Martha Smith in St. Louis, Mo. By November of 1839, Aristede Palmer had patented land in Osage County, Mo. Aristede Palmer died 1843 in Osage County, according to probate records. The 1850 Federal Census shows Martha Palmer had married Rawley/Raleigh Hauks/Hanks. Mr. Hanks is shown as one of the witnesses to the Aristede Palmer Last Will and Testament of record.
Children born to Aristede and Martha Palmer are: Mary Ann Palmer Croswhite; Rhoda K. Palmer Hood; Nancy Palmer Prewett; Elizabeth Palmer Nelson; William W. Palmer; Sarah Jane Palmer Prewett; and Eliza Palmer Bell.
