ROCKINGHAM | The Rev. Arlie Green, 73, of Lakeview Trail, died Friday, Nov. 17, 2006, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, eight days after being injured in Moore County in a traffic accident in which his wife died.

The funeral was conducted at 1 p.m. Monday at Sandhill Free Will Baptist Church in Laurel Hill, which he founded and served as pastor, by the Revs. Frank McQuage, Royce Honeycutt and Buddy Smith. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

The Rev. Green was born Aug. 14, 1933, in Sevier County, Tenn., to the late William West "WW" and Lillie McKeller Green. He was a fixer with Beaunit Mills (Avondale). He guided Sandhill Free Will Baptist Church and its congregation until his retirement in 2005. He was also a member of the Piedmont Free Will Baptist Association. He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Doris Green, on Nov. 9, 2006. Also preceding him in death were a daughter, Sheila Johnson; a grandson, Kevin Lee Deaver; a great-grandson, Trenton Holmes; a twin brother, Frank Green; five additional brothers, West Green, Maynard Green, Ralph Green, Tom England and Bob England; and six sisters, Dorothy Powers, Mabel White, Cory Lukewire, Evie Dixon, Rosie Webb and Bonny Webb.

He is survived by three daughters, Janet Bullock and her husband, Marvin, of Laurel Hill, Dina Schulz and her husband, Phillip, of Laurinburg, and Tina Underwood and her husband, Woody, of Rockingham; five brothers, Ray Green and Alvin Green of Madisonville, Tenn., and Cecil Green, Raymond England and Fred England, all of Maryville, Tenn.; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

The family received friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 19, at the church and other times at the home of Richard and Tina Underwood in Rockingham.
