What stories she could tell.

I believe she was born on a farm in Boone Co., KY the daughter of Woodford & Nancy Frances Roberts. [See 1850 KY Census].

In 1856, Nancy wed Sylvester Charles Heflin, in/nr Maryville, Missouri. He signed up for the C.W. Draft in 1863, and paid a man to take his place.

Later, he was encouraged to enlist with several kin in Co., C. 9th Mo. Cav. Regt. (Vol.s or National Guard)

Somewhere along here, Sylvester became a minister and united many of his kin in marriage.

Nancy & "Uncle Vest", as his kin called him, had at least 6 children: Melville; Armilda; William; Robert; Susan & Charles, before "Uncle Vest" died in 1874.

Nancy remained in the Nodaway County vicinity and met William McClain Cook, a widower, and they were wed in 1886.

When William d. in 1898, Nancy moved in with her son, Robert Elmer Heflin on their farm nr Burlington Jct. City. His wife was Emma Louisa COOK, the daughter of said William M. Cook.

So. Nancy's son's wife, Emma, was Nancy's daughter-in-law, at first, and then when Nancy married Emma's father, Emma became Nancy's step-daughter, as well, etc.

Wm & Nancy were buried, together, in the WILCOX CEMETERY.

She would have been 74 the following November.
