Rupert Elgin Klingaman, 88, of Richland Center, died Thursday, July 31, 2008 at his home. He was born January 5, 1920 in Henrietta Township the son of Jesse and Sadie (Palmer) Klingaman.

Rupert attended Richland Center High School. In the fall of 1939 he was a member of the undefeated conference championship football team. He was the last remaining member of the team. On February 22, 1945 Rupert married Ethel Klock in Bloom Township, and they had one son Jesse Dean.

The family farmed in Richland County and moved to Stoughton in 1961. Rupert worked as a Union Carpenter in Madison and continued farming. In 1977 he sold the farm and moved to Sun Prairie and retired in 1983. In 1985 the couple moved to Frankton, IN and in 1990 moved to Montpelier, IN to be closer to Jesse and his family. Ethel died in 1994. Rupert then married Norma Brown-Ferguson on March 31, 1995 and moved back to Richland County in 1995.

Rupert is survived by his wife Norma of Richland Center, son, Jesse (Claudia) Klingaman of Craigsville, IN, two step children, Cheryl Frye of Richland County, Roger Ferguson of Five Points, two grandchildren, Jaideen (Dave) Marie Klingaman-Barz, C.J. (Charles Jesse) Klingaman, two great-grandchildren, Bret and Kailene Barz, brother, Delbert (Charlotte) Klingaman of Janesville, two sisters, Joan (Byron) Schoonover of Spring Grove, MN, Stella (Gaylord) Moser of Richland Center, sister-in-law, Lue Bruns of Townson, MD, as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Rupert was preceded in death by his parents Jesse and Sadie Klingaman and his brother Dwight Klingaman.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, August 2, 2008 at 2:00 PM at the Pratt Memorial Chapel with Reverend Chuck Hayes officiating. Burial was held at the Woodstock Cemetery.

Friends called at the Pratt Memorial Chapel on Friday, August 1, 2008 from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Friends also called on Saturday, August 2,2008 from 1:00 PM until the time of the service at 2:00 PM. The family suggests memorial be given in Rupert's name to the Church of the Nazarene or Upland Hills Hospice.

The Pratt Funeral Service of Richland Center is assisting the family with their arrangements.
