Joshua Barron was born on June 30, 1749, in Westford, Massachusetts, the child of Timothy Barron and Hannah Fletcher Barron. He married Lavinia Derby and they had four children together. Lavinia died in Bradford, Vermont in 1788.

Joshua then had two sons, Groveneor and Orrin, and one daughter, Adaline, with his second wife Polly (nee unknown) Barron. About 1815, the family left Vermont and settled in Holland, New York where Joshua opened the first tavern.

Joshua died on May 4, 1828, in Holland, New York, having lived a long life of 78 years, and was buried in Humphrey Cemetery. His wife Polly remarried a man by the name of Geer. She lived until at least 1855. It is not know if she is buried in Humphrey with Joshua or elsewhere with her second husband.

He was a Patriot who marched on the alarm with Col. Prescott's 3rd Regiment on April 19th 1775 at Lexington and later was at the battle of Bunker Hill. (Massachusetts soldiers and sailor in the Revolutionary war)

Polly Geer is listed in the 1855 census as being from Vermont and the mother age 74 of Orren Barron son of Joshua. Polly may have been his second wife.
