On side of Stone: As a lawyer he was learned and succcessful, as a Chancellor, his decrees were marked with signal ability expressed in language singularly perspicuous and chaste, and are received as a value portion with our common law. On back of Stone: Simple in his habits, sincere in his friendship; in his public life a true patriot. He died April 8th 1862; Lamented by his associates; by his native state and by the Presbyterian church in whose cousel as a Ruling Elder he often assisted.
