OXFORD -- Mrs. JOSEPHINE Babcock BURWELL, age 96, died Wednesday, Feb. 24, 1999 at Brantwood Nursing & Retirement Center. The daughter of the late Arthur L. & Susan Augusta Simpkins Babcock and widow of the late Nathaniel D. BURWELL. A native of Chase City, VA. and a member of Oxford United Methodist Church.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Friday, Feb. 26, 1999 from Oxford United Methodist Church by the Rev. Dr. Alan P. Swantz and the Rev. Dr. James G. Arnold. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery, Oxford, NC.

Surviving are 2 daughters, Mrs. Augusta BURWELL Prince, of Fuquay-Varina, NC., and Mrs. Virginia BURWELL Arnold of Cashiers, NC.; 2 sons, Nathaniel D. BURWELL, Jr. of Clayton, NC., and Venable Babcock BURWELL, of Monroe, NC.; 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. BURWELL was preceded in death by one daughter, Mrs. Joy BURWELL Averett.
