Berniece Louise (Ray) Mauldin, of San Marcos, passed away Sept. 20, 2008 at the age of 75. She was born Dec. 27, 1932 in Jacksonville, the daughter of Pascal M. Ray and Dorothy Rickman. Berniece graduated from Texas A and I College, Kingsville. She obtained her teacher certification. Berniece married James Edward Mauldin on Aug. 28, 1958 in the First Baptist Church in Victoria. She taught at Grace Lutheran School from 1966 to 1974, and San Marcos CISD from 1974 until her retirement in 1993. She was preceded in death by her husband, James, her father, Pascal M. Ray, and brothers, Frank Ray and Joel Ray. She is survived by her mother, Dorothy Ray of Victoria; her son, Mark Edward Mauldin and his wife Donna of Cedar Park; daughter, Lori Lee Goltz and her husband Michael of Port Vue, Pennsylvania; brother, Pascal M. Ray, Jr. and his wife Margie of Victoria; sister, Minnie Lee Shaw and her husband Larry of Slidell, Louisiana; grandchildren, Gregory Scott Foley and Kelsey Lee Foley of Fort Collins, Colorado, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation was Monday, 6 to 8 p.m. at Pennington Funeral Home. A celebration of life service was held at 10 a.m. today at Grace Lutheran Church with Pastor Mel Newman officiating. Interment followed at Memory Lawn Memorial Park, Martindale. The family wishes to express their extreme gratitude to the membership of Grace Lutheran Church, CTMC Hospice, Hays Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, and Redwood Springs. Memorial contributions may be made to The Building Fund at Grace Lutheran Church, 1250 Belvin Street, San Marcos, TX 78666, or to CTMC Hospice, 1315 IH-35 North, San Marcos, TX 78666.
