Vincent (Vince) Wayne Bingham 1926 - 2008
Vincent (Vince) Wayne Bingham was born in Tulare County, S.D., on July 15, 1926, to Elizabeth and George Wayne Bingham and died at The Memorial Hospital in Craig on June 22, 2008. He was 81 years old.
Vince lived in New York, Hahn's Peak and Steamboat Springs and finally moved to Craig when he was 10 years old.
He served in the United States Army during World War II.
He met Phyllis Spetter and they united in marriage on June 18, 1949, celebrating their 59th anniversary four days before his death.
To this union, four children were born, William, Susan, Rose Marie and Daniel. They also had 25 foster children join their family through the years.
Vince worked for the State Highway Department and then a carpenter, working for Axil Swanson, Roger Johnson and Bill Pugh. Then in 1963, he went to work for Yampa Valley Electric Association.
He worked there 26 years, retiring in 1989. He loved hunting and fishing, but his passion was his family.
Vince is survived by his wife, Phyllis; four children: William Bingham and wife Rose, Susan Syvertson and husband Rob, Rose Marie Henrich and husband Steve, and Daniel Bingham and wife Lynn; twelve grandchildren: Billy Bingham and wife Judy, Laura Wait and husband Doug, Erick, Angel, Alex, Emilio and Mark Bingham, Nicholas and Kelly Syvertson, Teresa Bingham, Christina Steele and husband Jordan, and Krissy Allen and husband Lian; seven great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law: Lanay Shippert and husband Dossie, Betty Carlock and Norma Spetter; numerous nieces and nephews; and many, many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, stepmother Josephine Bingham, brothers George and Arden, father and mother-in-law William and Susan Spetter, brother-in-law Dale Spetter, grandson Wayne Michael Bingham and one niece, Glenda Sullivan.
Vince was a gentle and wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. He will be greatly missed.
He was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church and life member of Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks 1577, American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Rosary was said at 7 p.m. Thursday at St. Michael Catholic Church, and Mass of Christian burial was at 11 a.m. Friday, June 27, 2008 at St. Michael Catholic Church, with Father James Fox officiating.
Celeste Sanchez was the soloist and sang "Ave Maria" accompanied by David Hainault. Special music was "These Hands" performed by John Allen.
Pallbearers were Bob Cloer, John Cromer, Keith McCoolum, Johnny Garcia, Mike Hoeland and Bill Greenwood. Honorary pallbearers were Gary Shepard, Neldon Eaton, Tom Connor, Ernie Anderson and all Vince's many friends.
Interment was in the Craig Cemetery. Military honors were by VFW Post No. 4265.
