Mary Elizabeth Powell is the daughter of John Osbourn Powell (1793-1863) & Mary Sloan (born 1795, died after 1880). She was married twice. She was first married to James Madison Buckalew on 19 September 1849 in Choctaw County, Alabama. He died during the War Between the States. She married secondly, John Shannon on 12 December 1865. Mary had children from both marriages. (Biographical information contributed by William McNeil, Jr. Mary Sloan Powell's death date based on research by Dede Holden.)
