Alice was the oldest child of Landon and Faye Wagoner Whetstone. She served the communities of New Burlington, Xenia,Wilmington and Martinsville through her church and as an elementary teacher and elementary principal. She married Donald Laird Haines in August of 1941. They were parents of 3 children. Aldon, Paul Richard (deceased) and Faye Alice Mahaffey. Her siblings were Walter Landon Whetstone, Paul Marshall Whetstone, and Ellen Ruth Whetstone Davis.
