Son of Joshua D. Guffey (1811-1901) and Elizabeth Adkins (1807-1890). Husband of Nancy Jane Fraker (1829-1897), Rebecca Barton (1843- ) and Ellen Dellar (1847- ).
In 1861, Daniel Guffey left his family behind and joined the Union Army (Company D. 18th Regiment, Missouri Infantry). His unit became part of General Sherman's famous march through Georgia and, after the war ended, joined the celebration march through Washington, D.C. Daniel was discharged as a corporal on 18 July 1865.

DANIEL H. GUFFY DEAD
Daniel H. Guffy, aged 93 years, 3 months and 7 days, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. N. W. Vincent east of town Monday evening, December 15, at 7:15 o'clock. He had been bedfast for the past month and more than a year ago lost his eye-sight. The funeral services were held from the family home on Wednesday morning at 10 o'clock, conducted by Rev. Mason of the Methodist church and burial was made in the Sunnyside cemetery.
The deceased was born in Louden, Tenn., September 8, 1826. In 1848 he was united in marriage to Nancy J. Fraker in Putnam county, Missouri, and to that union eight children were born, four of whom are now living. They are Mrs. N. W. Vincent of this city, Wm. Guffy of Eldorado, and Mrs. Wm. Douglas and Hubbard Guffy of Arkansas.
In 1861 when the civil war came on Mr. Guffy enlisted in Company "D" of the 18th, Missouri regiment of volunteers and served through the war, being honorably discharged in 1865, after having been engaged in a number of the greater battles of the entire war. He was twice wounded and sent to the hospital until the wounds healed and then returned to his command for further duties. His war record covers an active period and his command was with Sherman on the march to the sea at the close of the war.
