_______________
MRS. VIRGINIA DAVIS DEAD
Virginia Caroline Brown, daughter of Wm. and Louisa Jane Brown, was born near Mason City, Ill., December 11, 1850, and departed this life at the home of her son, J. R. Davis near Solomon, March 4th, 1923, aged 72 years, 2 months and 21 days.
She was married to Francis Marion Davis, July 1870. To them were born four sons, W. F. Davis, deceased, E. E. and J. R., of near Solomon, and H. M., of Clay Center. The two oldest sons were born in Illinois, the family removing from there to Kansas, making the trip in a prairie schooner. They settled first in Dickinson county afterwards moving to a homestead or soldier's clain in Ottawa county. They lived there a number of years passing through many hardships incident to pioneers of those days. Disposing of their farm they returned to Dickinson county where the husband and father was called to his eternal home sixteen years and six months ago.
Since her husband's death, Mrs. Davis has made her home with her children and her sister, Mrs. Hertzog. Last October she returned from Colorado, where she had spent a pleasant year with her sister, Mrs. H. A. Banta and other relatives. Tho seemingly in her usual health when she left there, she, who scarcely knew what illness meant, was soon to be prostrated and tortured with pain, tho all that loving care and medical skill could do was freely bestowed. As the disease progressed it became apparent we must give our dear sister and mother up.
She was converted when eleven years old and joined the Methodist church, of which she was ever a consistent member. Tho almost blind she was patient and uncomplaining and often surprised one with her skill at various tasks.
She leaves three sons, two sisters, two brothers, eight grand-children and one great grandchild, besides a large number of friends to mourn her departure.
We feel our loss is her gain.
