Son of James Ellis Shirts & Lydia Musetta Workman

Married Jennie May Hadden, 22 Dec 1914, Mountain Home, Duchesne, Utah

History. Johnnie Ellis was born at Burns Fork (Burnt Fork) Uinta, Wyoming on the Utah-Wyoming Border. Johnie Ellis married Jenney May Hadden on 22 Dec 1914 in Mountain Home, Duchesne, Utah. Johnnie was the driver for the stage line between Duchesne and Vernal.

On March 30, 1920, Johnnie and three other men were riding in a car up Indian Canyon. The car stalled on a little used road, the two men in back got out to put rocks under the wheels to keep the car from rolling back, but before they could do so the car rolled back over a thirty-foot embankment killing Johnnie and the other man whose name was Charlie Odicirk. The brakes in those days had to be released to start a car.

Johnnie's parents were called from a movie and told that their son had been killed. They never got over this terrible blow. Johnnie left his wife, Jennie, and three children, Phyllis, Evan, and Darrel. There was no insurance or money left to take care of his family. His parents & their family did all they could to help Jennie and the children.

They bought a house and moved to Duchesne, remodeled, and helped her move in, doing all they could to help her start a new life without her husband. Johnnie was tall over 6 ft. with dark brown hair and very dark brown eyes. He was a handsome man, told by friends that he had a beautiful voice and that he and Jennie sang at many funerals and activities.
