Elizabeth Alvira Wilmoth Little was the only child of Gabriel Wilmoth (1778-aft. 1840) and his second wife Elizabeth Whiteside (1788-1873) of Rutherford Co., NC. (Wilmoth was Elizabeth Whiteside's second husband.) When Elizabeth as still a child her father deserted his family and resettled in Marshall Co., AL. In 1830 her mother obtained a divorce and re-married Jones Bradley (ca. 1785-ca. 1865), settling on a farm in Montford's Cove, Rutherford Co. There the young Elizabeth met Daniel Abijah Little (1815-1899) of Catawba Co. Though only seventeen, she married him on November 4, 1840. The couple initially settled close to Elizabeth's mother and step-father in Montford's Cove where Daniel worked as a millwright. By 1860 the family had moved to a farm in Catawba Co. Daniel and Elizabeth had eight children: Joshua Alonzo (b. 1841), William Weldon (b. 1842), Junius Pinckney (b. 1844), Cebron Melanchthon (b. 1846), Catherine Camilla (b. 1848), Louise America (b. ca. 1852), Stanley Landrey Daniel (b. 1854), and Alice Elizabeth (b. 1857).
