Lillie Bayliss Stanford was born in Columbia County Georgia, the daughter of John David Stanford and his first wife Mrs. Eliza F. Tully nee Bayliss, the widow of James W. Tully, who perished in the civil war. Lillie wrote her name in her Bible and used the spelling Bayliss but the name is variously spelled as Bayless, Baylis, or just Balis. Lillie married Daniel O. Calhoun on 6 March 1884 at her father's home in Montgomery county and Rev. H J Smith performed the ceremony. Her Bible recorded witnesses Miss Mollie Stanford and B. R. Calhoun ( her aunt and brother of the bridegroom ). Lillie was close family with her ten half-brothers and sisters, children of her father and his second wife, Georgia Walker. Lillie bore seven children, Floyd B., Lillie B., Allie Mae, Hilary S., Vance O., Lillie Gladys, and James Irwin Calhoun. Grandchildren tell that she often cleaned this cemetery, it was by the roadside in her time, and she was buried here. But the road was rerouted, paved and the cemetery was left in a field. Her remains were exhumed in the late 1940's and re-buried in the Tarrytown Cemetery.

Lillie was a proud descendant of Connecticut Rev. Daniel Marshall who preached and traveled south with his wife Martha ( Stearns ) Marshall. They founded Georgia's first continuing Baptist Church in 1772 at Kiokee Creek in Columbia County Georgia. Martha is credited with being the first female minister and today the Baptist Women in Ministry sponsors an annual Martha Stearns Marshall month.
