Arvill Ray Chilton, 87, of Billings passed peacefully and was "gone with the wind" in the early morning of September 20, 2008, in the Missouri Veterans Home in Mt. Vernon, Mo. He was born December 2, 1920, in Ellington, Mo., the son of Dan Smith Chilton and Ivy Myrtle (Short) Chilton. Arvill was married to his one and only sweetheart, Marguerite (Lewis) Chilton on May 15, 1941. Arvill proudly served his country during World War II as a Staff Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps in the Pacific Theater. He was a retired member of the Carpenters Local #978. Arvill was a great husband and a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Arvill's wife, parents and two brothers, J.D. Chilton and L.C. Chilton, preceded him in death. He is survived by three sons and their spouses, Sonny and Yoshiko Chilton of Bois D‘Arc, Dan and Sandy Chilton of Billings and Larry and Liz Chilton of Ft. Smith; two daughters and their spouses, Diane and Jerry Benson of Rogersville and Barbara and Bill Schulenberg of Oregon City, Ore.; seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and three sisters, Buelah Cox and Eva McConnell of Springfield, and Lois Manes of Norfolk, Va. Visitation will be held Tuesday, September 23, from 6 to 8 p.m. in Meadors Funeral Home, Republic. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, September 24, 2008, in Fasken Cemetery, Carthage, with Michael Kanai and Don Smith officiating, under direction of Meadors Funeral Home, Republic.
