Tabler Christian Vineyard was born in Botetourt County Virginia in 1816 the fourth of ten children born to Tabler Vineyard and Jane Logan. By the late 1830's the family was living in Blount County Tennessee. Tabler Christian married Anna Haddox July 11, 1839. Their first five children were born in Blount County Tennessee after which they removed to West Chickamauga, Walker County Georgia where the last six of their eleven children were born. This is the area that is now the Chickamauga National Military Park. On September 19, 1863 the Battle of Chickamauga began in the field in front of the Vineyard house(spelled Viniard). The fighting was the heaviest here as it raged back and forth along the road connecting several farms. The Vineyards had to leave their home and possessions and flee for their lives eventually living in Atlanta, Georgia. Tabler joined Howard's 1st Georgia Infantry (Dewitt C. Howard) in late 1863 and 1864, this being a Guerrilla force for the Union Army. He died 21 Aug 1864 at Bridgeport, Jackson County, Alabama from diarrhea and was buried in the Chattanooga National Cemetery, Section H Site 10962, Chattanooga, Tennessee. It is ironic that his oldest son James R Vineyard joined the Confederate Army, was captured and died in a Union Prison Camp from smallpox. Both survived the battles, but succumbed to disease.

Tabler Vineyard is my gggrandfather.

Inscription: 1ST GA INF

Note: Member of Howard's 1st Georgia Infantry (Dewitt C. Howard) in late 1863 and 1864. Union Army.
