British artist and writer. Educated at the Slade school in London, she met there her future husband the artist Anthony Devas. She painted under the name Nicolette Macnamara and her landscapes became more successful than the works of her husband. During the war she switched to writing, with her autobiography 'Two Flamboyant Fathers' achieving particular success. She also gave talks on the BBC. One of her sisters, Caitlin, was married to the poet Dylan Thomas. Following the death of Anthony in 1958, Nicolette remarried the artist Rupert Shephard, a fellow student at the Slade.
