Blatt, a Centralia resident since 1967, was born January 31, 1918, to John Andrew and Verena (Wenger) Blatt, one of their eight children, in Arpin, Wisconsin, where he was reared and attended schools. His parents were from Switzerland.
At age 16, he began his cheese-making career, working in the Arpin area for several years before his service in the US Army.
He served in the military in the Panama Canal as a chauffeur to a general, and later served in Germany. After his military service, he returned to Wisconsin and cheese-making.
On August 9, 1946, he married Sylvia Stoflet. They owned and operated cheese factories in Greytown, Fourtown and Cloverleaf, Wisconsin, from 1948-1967. They moved to Centralia, where he worked for Cardinal Doors until his retirement in 1975.
A strong family man, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, sports, bowling and playing horseshoes. A life member of Lewis Pacific Swiss Society, he was a past member of the Moose Lodge.
In addition to his wife at home in Centralia, he is survived by two daughters, two sons, two brothers, two sisters, seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his grandsons, John Michael Pryor in 1991 and Steven Pryor in 1997.
A private family gathering for Blatt will be held later. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Newell-Hoerling's Mortuary in Centralia.
