The grave is set back away from the others in the back right corner of the cemetery. The original headstone is made from local feildstone and is breaking away. It was rediscovered in 2009 during a cleanup of the cemetery overgrown with brush & briars. It was replaced by the Sons of Confederate Veterans R.E. Lee Camp #239. His last name is miss-spelled on the original stone as Washham. The correct full name is John C. Washam with one h. His father was Willis Washam and his mother was Margaret Killough. He was briefly married to a Minerva A. Boles (born 1836 in Indiana)in Forsyth, Taney County, Mo. in 1853. They had one daughter Mary Ann Washam.
John served as a Pvt in the 1st Brigade, 8th Div., Mo. State Guard. He was severely wounded at the Battle of Wilson's Creek Aug 10, 1861. He never fully recovered. After the war he came to Texas and lived with his Nephew Thomas C. Washam of Rendon.
