Silas Paul Elliott was born in Hamilton, Ohio August 28, 1839.

Early in life he moved to Des Moines, Iowa and in the spring of 1860 accompanied by his father and brother drove a team from there to Denver. The father returned home soon afterward and left the boys to make their way into the mountain diggings. Silas and his brother started out for the park country and Brechenridge, when they reached there, only to find all the promising ground, covered by claims, many of them producing gold dust in good quantities. They made the effort to locate a claim until until August when they gave up and returned to Denver and found employment with Major Bradford.

For the past thirty years, Silas and wife have lived by the side of the old road near Conifer, now a part of Colorado's highway system.
