EASLEY, SC - Virginia "June" Stewart O'Shields, 76, previously of 2305 Brushy Creek Road, Easley died Tuesday, September 9, 2008 at Oakmont West Nursing Home in Berea after a long battle with Alzheimer's Disease.

Born in Pickens, South Carolina, June was the cherished daughter of the late William Roe Stewart and Texanna Porter Stewart. June was the beloved wife of the late Oscar Ronald O'Shields who passed away on May 11, 2004; the couple celebrated 52 years of marriage.

Prior to retiring as a homemaker in the 1970's, June was employed by JP Stevens, Inc. (Monaghan and White Horse Plants) and Norwich Pharmaceuticals. She was a devoted member of Tabernacle Baptist Church in Greenville.

June is survived by a son Tom O'Shields and daughter-in-law Evelyn O'Shields of Easley; a son Jim O'Shields and daughter-in-law Karen O'Shields of Simpsonville; a son Jeff O'Shields of Travelers Rest; four grandchildren, Tyler, Jordan, Cody and Katherine; and one brother Kenneth Stewart of Pickens. June was predeceased by two sisters, Frances Stewart and Ruth Brown, and three brothers, Coy Stewart, Frank Stewart and Leroy Stewart.

June was a true lady who will be remembered in our hearts as a loving and loyal wife, mother and friend. Her kindness, humor and decency will be missed by many.

The family will receive friends in the Garden Room of Dillard Funeral Home in Pickens on Friday, September 12, 2008 from 6 until 8 p.m.

The funeral service will be held at 3 p.m.Saturday, September 13, 2008 in the chapel of Dillard Funeral Home, with internment to follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park adjacent to the funeral home. Dr. Melvin Aiken, pastor of Tabernacle Baptist Church will conduct services. Dr. Alvin O'Shields will conduct the graveside service.

The family would like to express deep gratitude and respect to everyone who ever extended a kind word or deed to June during her illness. Memorials may be made to Alzheimer's Association, 521 North McDuffie Street, Anderson, SC 29621.
