Obituary

Robert E. Lee, age 83, passed away March 8, 1979, at the Miami County Hospital in Paola, Kansas.

He was born January 14, 1896, in Louisburg, the seventh child of James T. and Mary Ellen Brown Lee. He received his education in the Louisburg schools. After graduating from high school, he attended college at Kansas State University. He taught one year of school after which he enlisted in the armed services and served overseas during World War I. Upon returning home he farmed the home place.

He was united in marriage to Alta Wise on May 17, 1921, in Paola,Kansas. To this union twin daughters were born. The family lived in Louisburg until 1926 when the moved to Osawatomie upon Bob's employment as Clerk in the Post Office. In 1942, they again made their home in Louisburg after transferring to the Louisburg Post Office as Rural Letter Carrier. In 1953, due to the loss of his eyesight, he was forced to retire. He never complained of his affliction but tried to be always helpful to others. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Louisburg. He was a quite, unassuming man who loved his church, community and fellow man. He was also a loving and kind husband and father.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Floyd, Earl, Roy, Jim and Ed; three sisters, Laurah, Gwendola and Edna; his wife Alta, who passed away December 13, 1967.

The survivors include his two daughters, Jean, wife of Bill McClintock of Louisburg, and Jane, wife of Bill Spears of Parsons; eight grandchildren, Billy, Gary, Marcia, Marla and Stacy McClintock; Harrison Lee, Sandra and Tim Spears and two great grandchildren.

Also surviving are a nephew J.C. Schuler, who lived in their home several years and was thought of as a son; and a sister-in-law, Edith, wife of Roy Lee, who has been so devout to the end, several nieces, nephews and many friends.

Services were held at the First Baptist Church in Louisburg at 2:00 p.m. March 10, 1979 with Rev. Vern Belew officiating. "Going Home" and "The Lord's Prayer" was sung by Mrs. Marilyn Kelly accompanied by Mrs. Elizabeth Crotchett. Casketbearers were Jim Gardner, J.C. Schuler, Arthur Vohs, Dale Wise, Glenn Wise, and Harvey Wise.
Internment was in the Louisburg Cemetery under the direction of the Runyan Funeral Home.

Military graveside services were conducted by the J.P. Hand Post No. 250 of the American Legion.
