Bob L. Benefield, 82, of Beech Drive died at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2008, at Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility.

Mr. Benefield was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and retired in 1978 after working as a sales representative and distributor for Reliance Electric Co. for 32 years.

He was a member of East Columbus United Methodist Church, St. John's Masonic Lodge No. 20, Indianapolis Valley of the Scottish Rite and the Murat Shrine. He also was a member of American Legion Post No. 24, where he was a member of 40 & 8 Club, and was a former member of Bartholomew County Veterans Color Guard.

The funeral will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street with the Rev. Charles Aigner offi ciating. Calling will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday and from 9 a.m. until service time Monday. A Masonic memorial service will be conducted by St. John's Masonic Lodge at 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery with full military rites conducted by Bartholomew County Veterans Color Guard.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of South Central Indiana.

Born in Hope July 26, 1926. Mr. Benefield was the son of Frank and Bernice Burch Benefield. He married Betty G. Williams Dec. 5, 1944.

Survivors include a son, Gerald (Sandra) Benefield of Venice, Fla., and a grandson, Jeromy (Kristin) Benefield of Columbus.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife on April 2, 1998; and a daughter, Karen Kay Benefield.
