Walter Harris was a Mini Stock Race Car driver that raced at Twin State Speedway in Claremont, NH, among other tracks. He was at least a 1 time track champion. He had many wins and top 5 feature finishes, and was one of the nicest drivers that you would ever meet. He was racing on the night of May 13, 2005, and won the race. During his victory lap, he pulled off the track on the backstretch. When the safety crew responded to his car, he told them that he was not feeling well and was short of breath. They removed him from the car and placed him in the ambulance, rushing him to the hospital. He would never make it to the hospital, as he was having a heart attack and passed away on the way to the hospital. If there is any calming words that can be mentioned in such a tragic event, he passed away doing something he loved, and was on top of the sport when he did, he won his last race. The following week, the entire mini stock division, at the end of the race, on the last lap, left the track before taking the checkered flag and let Walt take another checkered. That was their way of remembering Walt.
