BENJAMIN H. WARD Benjamin Herman Ward was born April 19, 1929 and died March 29, 2004. He was a Mayflower descendant whose family moved to Texas in the late 19th century. Born and raised in Houston, he graduated from Lamar High School and attended Rice University. He graduated from University of Texas and was a member of Alpha Tau Omega. He worked in the real estate business before establishing a long career as an antiques dealer and art appraiser. Although his area of expertise was Pre-Columbian art, he was extremely knowledgeable in the art and history of the ancient Asian cultures. He served as President of the Houston Board of Realtors and as Treasurer, Secretary and Show Chairman of the Houston Antiques Dealers Association. He was a lifetime member of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo where he served on the International Committee. He was a member of the Mayflower Society and was a longtime member of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church where he served as Deacon and Elder. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 47 years, Rosemary Hamner Ward and is survived by his children: Rosa and Dr. Frank Pardue of Manila, Philippines, Ben and Mary Ward, Tod Ward and Molly and Dr. Anthony Popek, all of Houston. He is also survived by five grandchildren: John, Caroline and Stephen Pardue, Benjamin George (BG) Ward and Mary Hannah Popek and by his brother, Andrew M. Ward of San Antonio, Texas. His life was blessed by many family friends who cherished his unmatched wit and humor and his unforgettable stores. The family wishes to express deep gratitude to the loving support of the staff of Com-For-Care, the Houston Hospice and to longtime family friend and care taker, Maria Consuelo Leon. A Memorial service will be held on April 14, 2004 at 3:00 PM at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church with Dr. Miles Douglas Harper officiating.
