Around 1855 the family moved again by ox-drawn wagon, this time to Laclede County, Missouri, where they settled north of Oakland and named their place "Cottonwood Springs." Thomas Chapel is named for the family.
After the Civil War, Eli married Amanda Caroline Lillard on December 15, 1866. They had 5 sons and 2 daughters. Manda died in 1882, and he married Rebecca J Smith on November 11, 1883. They had 3 sons and a daughter. Rebecca died in 1923, and Eli married a third time, to Mrs. Sarah Caroline Stever.
Eli Harrison Thomas died on March 18, 1938, in Springfield, Missouri, at the age of 91, and was buried in Antioch Cemetery in Oakland, Missouri, not far from his home place of Cottonwood Springs. He shares a stone with wife Rebecca.
