Mr. Price was born in the Pleasure Bay section and has been a lifelong resident here. He was a supervisor in the accounting department of the Central Railroad of New Jersey in Newark, working for the railroad 51 years.
He was a star athlete at Chattle High School, where he was graduated in 1920. He earned varsity letters in four sports, excelling in track and baseball.
He was a member of one of the shore's foremost iceboating families and actively campaigned the Class A ice yacht "Imp" with his partner, the late John Heyer.
His father, the late Capt. Elisha W. Price, still holds the world's speed record of 140 miles per hour on ice, set in 1908 on the Shrewsbury River.
He was a former vice commodore of the Long Branch Iceboat and Yacht Club, which his family founded in 1901. He also was a member of the North Shrewsbury Iceboat Club of Red Bank. He was a communicant of St. James Episcopal Church. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Railway and Steamship Clerks in Elizabeth and of the Phi Chi Pi fraternity.
Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Helen Zilly Price; a son, James S. "Toby" Price of Ocean Township, and two granddaughters.
