Kathryn M. Horton, 77, of North Adams Home in Mendon, Il., formerly of Lima, Il., Louisiana, Mo., and Vandalia, Mo. died at 6:55 a.m. Sunday (Sept. 30, 2007) in Blessing Hospital, Quincy, Il. of diabetes complications. She had been a patient there for the previous 18 days with the last four days under the tender and thoughtful care of Blessing Hospice.

Born July 27, 1930 in Middletown, Mo., Kathryn was the only daughter and second child of Sylvester W. and Geneva (Fisher) Butts. She married Arlie Horton Jr. on July 11, 1948 in Vandalia, Mo [see note below].

Kathryn worked at Louisiana Plastics for over 25 years until her retirement in 1995. And in 1997, she moved to Lima, Il. to be close to family. She was a Christian woman, most recently attending services at North Adams Home.

Kathryn was also a happy woman who always had smile on her face and a laugh in her heart. She took great pleasure in telling stories of her early years growing up on a Depression Era farm in Missouri. She most loved spending time with her family at BBQs, holidays, birthday parties, and Tuesday dinner.

Kathryn also enjoyed her life and friends at North Adams Home. She blossomed there for seven wonderful years. She was most proud of being crowned Queen of North Adams Home in May 2004.

In addition to her parents, Kathryn was preceded in death by her two brothers Kenneth "Phil" Butts and Marion "Ben" Butts and an infant daughter Beverly Kay Horton next to whom Kathryn is buried.

Visitation was on Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2007 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Waters Funeral Home in Vandalia, Mo. Immediately following was a graveside service at Vandalia Cemetery.
