Jacob VanBuren Snyder, son of Solomon and Elizabeth Welty Snyder. He married Sarah Paulina Jane Hibler on 19 August 1875 in Huntington County, Indiana. To this union were born three children. Elmay Frances, Nancy Catherine and James Elwin. Following Sarah's death, Jacob married Lydia Francis Gamble on 14 August 1886. Lydia was Sarah's cousin on her mother's side. Lydia raised Jacob's three young children, Elmay , Nancy & James with her daughter Gertrude and they together they had three sons Carl, John, Guy and a daughter Dora. Also, Jacob and Lydia raised their grandson, Jimmy , son of James Elwin Snyder and his wife Rena Smith, till his death at age 15. Jacob Snyder worked the sawmills near White Cloud, MI in the early days after they moved to Michigan. Later he farmed around Pierson, MI and Sand Lake, MI. They then moved to Grand Rapids and he was a night watchman at the Sleigh Furniture Factory when he retired.
