Marguerite Louise Furtney, age 93, formerly of Austin, Minn., died at South Shore Care Center in Worthington, Minn. Thursday evening, Sept. 11, 2008.

Marguerite was born Feb. 17, 1915 to Jul and Martha (Kulsrud) Peterson in Austin, Minn. She graduated from Austin High School in 1932.
On Aug. 31, 1935, she was united in marriage to Ferris Furtney at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Austin.
Marguerite worked in the Hormel office for 10 years.
She and Ferris were lifelong members of First United Methodist Church. Marguerite loved history, culture and reading.
A member of Art and Travel Club, the Symphony Study Group, "Y" Matrons and many other civic organizations; attending the Concert Series was always one of her favorites. She loved to entertain and set a beautiful party table. She loved being with people and was always on the go.
Going in the motorhome was something she liked, but she would never admit it. Flowers were her passion; she loved to grow and decorate with them. Having coffee with her friends was a must, but her family always came first. Her caretaker and nurses said she was great to care for, and they all described her as a real lady. Her favorite word for all the nurses was "pipsqueak."

Survivors include two sons: Roy (Susie) Furtney, Austin, Minn., David (Sandy) Furtney, Kenosha, Wis.; daughter: Shauna (Michael) Brignac, Worthington, Minn.; 14 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; sister: Helen Davidson, Calif.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jul and Matilda Peterson; her husband, Ferris, on August 5, 2002; three brothers, Vernon, Harold and Robert Peterson; one sister, Katherine Torkelson.

Friends may greet the family from 5 to 6:30 p.m., Monday, Sept. 15, 2008 at Worlein Funeral Home in Austin. Services will be private for the family with Pastor Patricia Toschak officiating and interment at Oakwood Cemetery.
