According to his obituary published in the Decatur Daily Review on 08 March 1944, George Roberts was born in Illiopolis, IL on 26 Feb 1871, son of William T and Nancy Roberts. Married in 1902, Sophia Knickrehm, who died 14 June 1937.

While leading a horse to its stall George passed back of another horse which kicked him, knocking him down. This frightened the horse he was leading and it reared over a manger. Roberts was trampled under the frightened horse according to a sheriff's report. In the hospital, it was said that Roberts' injuries included a broken back, a broken leg, fractured skull and internal injuries.

Roberts leaves two daughters, Mrs. Edward Griesheim of Illiopolis and Mrs. Chris Michelson of Decatur, one stepdaughter, Mrs. Daisy Cantrall of Vancouver, WA., and two grandchildren. Also survived by one brother, Harve C. Roberts of Illiopolis, and a sister, Mrs. Edward Baker of Illiopolis. Burial at the Riverside cemetery in Illiopolis.
