Bernard F. Engelken, 80, of Seneca, died Sunday morning, October 29, 2006, at his home. He was born February 26, 1926, on a farm north of St. Benedict, the son of Henry J. and Johanna Bergman Engelken. He attended St. Mary's School at St. Benedict. Later he went on the harvest with his dad. For several years he worked for the Koelzer Lumber Yard in Seneca. He had lived in his Terrace Heights Apartment for quite a few years and knew a lot of people. Bernie was friendly and liked visiting with family, neighbors, and people in general. He could be seen around town riding his "bike". He also enjoyed refinishing antiques.
Bernie was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Church and the St. Joseph Society at the church.
Survivors are a brother, Kenneth Engelken of Topeka, and two sisters, Florence Pearson of Seneca and Mary Ann Armstrong of David City, NE. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Alfred Engelken on May 17, 1996, Cletus Engelken on January 27, 1983, and Aloysius H. "Wishy" Engelken on January 11, 2004; and two sisters Rosalita Mace on February 26, 1956 and Leona Koelzer.
