John Bayon enlisted as a Private in Company B of the Reorganized Fourth Michigan Infantry on August 22, 1864, for 3 years of service, at age 31. He died from measles at Chattanooga, Tennessee, on May 31, 1865.

Had a son by the name of Isaac, as well as the daughter Permelia.
