Son of Deacon John Wood (1731-1810) and Hannah Richardson (1733-1811) from Norwich, CT whom are both buried in Hubbard Cemetery, E. Georgia, Franklin, VT. John married Sarah Safford (1770-1810) of Bennington whose father was Col. Joseph Safford and whom founded the township of Malone in 1802 with John Wood along with his brothers Nathan and Enos. They all fought in the Revolutionary War together. John Wood started the first grist mills of Malone.
