HOPE - Mary A. Rich, 97, of Hope, formerly of Clifford, died at 10:17 p.m. Wednesday, July 2, 2003, at Miller's Merry Manor.

Mrs. Rich was a member of Clifford United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women and had been the Clifford correspondent for the Hope Star Journal. She was the 1985 recipient of Clifford Fire Department's Outstanding Citizen Award.

Mrs. Rich was a homemaker and enjoyed quilting and crocheting.

The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Norman Funeral Home. Calling will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday and from 9 a.m. until service time Tuesday. Burial will be at Fairland Cemetery in Shelby County.

Memorials may be made to Clifford Fire Department.

Born in Shelby County Sept. 10, 1905, Mrs. Rich was the daughter of Clarence O. and Rhoda E. Worrell Rouse. She married Ernest L. Rich.

Survivors include a son, Melvin "Buddy" Rich of Hope; brothers, Arthur Max and Robert Rouse, both of Morristown; sisters, Gertrude Purcell of Osgood, Ruth Alice Hargrove of Fairland and Lillian Theobald of Shelbyville; grandchildren, Kim Coy and Kevin Rich, both of Hope, and Kris Rich of Clifford; and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband on May 23, 1974; three brothers; and four sisters.
