Laberta was born to Albert E. Brown and Thelma V. Tiff on the Brown ranch S/E of Yuma, Co. She grew up with her siblings, Cleo, Arlene and Waunita, of which she was the youngest. She went to grade school at Mt. Hope, 1 mile East of the ranch and either walked or rode their horse Topsy.

She then boarded in town and attended high school at Yuma Union High. She met her future husband at the Woodlawn Hall roller skating rink while with their mutual friends. She married Richard Lee Kier - Sep 12, l948 - at the Presbyterian parsonage, in an outdoor ceremony.

Four children were born to this union, Kenneth, Herbert, Judy and Robert Kier. In the early years of their marriage they lived in Yuma County, CO. Dick became employed constructing elevators, so they moved quit often. Dick and his brother Jim farmed together near Benkelman, NE for a few years then went back to construction work.

Laberta raised a garden, baked bread and sewed for her family. Her dearest hobby was Artex painting. She also enjoyed the Home Demonstration Club she belonged to in NE. After Dick and Laberta separated, she went to a job training class in Montana.

Laberta moved to Renton, WA, where she met and later married Jim Taylor on June 4th, 1983. They divorced in a few years and she moved back to Colorado, then to Mc Cook, NE., where she purchased a home.

Laberta was a Christian and her favorite hymn was, "That Will Be Glory For Me," it was played at her funeral.
