Hickory Grove Man, Struck By Auto, Dies In Hospital Here
William Lockard Brannon, of Hickory Grove RFD 1, died about 12:15 a.m. today in St. Phillips hospital of injuries received yesterday when he was struck by an automobile while walking on highway near his home. He was 78 years old.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. tomorrow at Canaan Church near Smyrna with Rev. H. B. Hardy, pastor of Mt. Vernon Methodist Church, and Rev. R. M. Bell, of Hickory Grove A.R.P. church in charge.
Mr. Brannon's legs were broken and he suffered other injuries when he was knocked down by an automobile reported driven by Mrs. W. P. Wingo, of Gaffney, early yesterday. He was walking on the Hickory Grove-York highway just outside of Hickory Grove when the accident occurred. Mrs. Wingo's car which also was going in the direction of York, had just passed a large truck when it struck Mr. Brannon. The death was accidental, officers and other members of the family said, and no inquest was to be held.
Surviving are the following children: Mrs. H.H. Moss, whom he made his home; Mrs. E. J. Moss, Mrs. J.W. Bolin, Hickory Grove; Bud Brannon and Wister Brannon, Gastonia; and Lester Brannon, Denmark. Also surviving are 43 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
